They monitor clients that are within government programs and keep track of clients’ health and conditions. One of the higher-paying positions in social work, PayScale reported the median pay for a health care social worker is $48,045. Job suggestions include:

  • Clinic manager
  • Case manager
  • Project coordinator

Mental Health and Substance Abuse Social Worker

You should consider . . . mental health and substance abuse social worker. You care deeply about other people and prefer a coaching role. Substance abuse social workers help individual addicts, moderate support groups or work for a rehabilitation facility. A Master of Social Work (MSW) is required for counseling positions, but those with a BSW can work in many support positions, including:

Child and Family Social Worker

Child welfare social workers ensure the social, physical, psychological and emotional well-being of children, as well as assist with placing children in foster care and helping families adopt. School Social Worker

You should consider . . . school social worker. You care about children and serving the youth in your community. School social workers provide psychosocial services (education and group support) and counseling to children in schools. One of the higher-paying positions in social work, PayScale reported the median pay for someone working in school social work is $48,297. An MSW is required for counseling positions, but those with a BSW can work in many support positions, including:
